Holy Spirit Catholic Church opened the St. Gianna Crisis Pregnancy home in November. The St. Gianna Crisis Pregnancy Home is a place where pregnant women can find comfort and learn how to cope with the challenges of motherhood.

After Saturday’s storms, the crews spent Monday cleaning up.

Kathryn Byrne, Co-Director of the St. Gianna Crisis Pregnancy Home said, “As the people left mass, somebody noticed the tree in the front yard.” We drove to the house in the darkness, just to check out what was going on. The damage was not apparent in the darkness, but when we returned the following morning we realized the full extent.

The wind gusts of up to 90mph knocked down trees and powerlines, and destroyed the garage and shed.

Byrne stated, “We have things like damaged handmade baby quilts. The sewing machine needs to be tested to make sure it works.” Our heating and cooling system was also blown. We have to check that to make sure it will work properly once we turn the power on. “We have some broken cribs and youth beds.”

It was a home that suffered some interior damage, roof damage and water damage due to the falling tree.

Byrne believes that despite the clean up, they will still be able to make their debut in spring 2024.

Byrne explained that they were about to begin the work on the extension to the house’s side, which would take several months. We certainly pray that we will be able to fix the roof and get back the yard in order within that time frame.

Byrne stated that the Home is waiting to find out what their insurance costs will be, but are always open to accepting donations.

Byrne stated that people are invited to give as long as the pregnancy home remains open. We rely on donations to get us started and finish our new addition.

Byrne said that although the house already had plans for extreme weather conditions, this weekend’s weather awareness has been heightened. Some of the trees on the property could be cut down to reduce risks.
