After several roads washed away, businesses in Farmington have flooded and skiing at Sugarloaf has been difficult.
Route 27 from Carrabassett Valley to Sugarloaf was opened Tuesday night after several resort guests had been stuck since Monday.
This is just one part of a large region which has suffered from flooding.
Cedar Andrus said, “There were just rivers everywhere. Bridges and trees were all covered with water, logs.” Cedar Andrus was stuck at Sugarloaf.
In the past two days historic flooding in Franklin County, including Main Street, Farmington, has flooded businesses and destroyed roads.
Zach Ball, a Farmington resident said: “Honestly, it looked just like a large swimming pool.”
One family in New Vineyard lost a portion of the metal roof they were rehabilitating.
Melissa Lovejoy, a New Vineyard resident, said: “We could not get out of our driveway in order to check the damage.” It’s heartbreaking.
It will cost a lot to replace the damaged tiles.
Lovejoy estimated that if we were to do the work ourselves it would cost between $10,000 and $15,000.
Officials from the Emergency Management Department expect Franklin County repairs to take several weeks.
Courtney Knapp, Franklin County EMA director said: “Franklin County is very damaged.”
Route 27 in Carrabassett Valley collapsed on Monday evening, swallowing a pickup just a few feet away.
Knapp stated that “everyone involved with the rebuilding of roads” will make every effort.
On Tuesday, as crews worked to repair the road temporarily, a truck hit a powerline.
CMP has halted work to shut down the power.
Sugarloaf was closed for a day due to the damaged road and other issues. It reopened Tuesday afternoon.
