Winnipeg’s car dealer is still assessing damage from a hailstorm which hit parts of the southern Manitoba region earlier in the week.

Jesse Shore said that the Eastern Chrysler dealer on Main Street was damaged by the storm on Wednesday.

Shore, in an interview with The Sun on Saturday, said that there was a range of cars affected. Some were worse off than others depending where they had been parked.

The damage to vehicles can range from scratched fenders and hoods to cracks in the windshields.

Shore explained that the dealership was waiting on their insurer to determine the full cost of damage.

Some cars may need a paintless dent repair of $500. It’s possible that some cars need to have a new roof or hood. It’s hard to tell right now.”

Shore stated that despite the extensive damage to all vehicles, they can still be repaired.

He said that the dealer can also offer discounts for customers who are willing to drive away with a dented car.

We’ll be running a hail sale until the end of this month and possibly next month while we fix these cars. He said that customers would be able “to come and grab a great deal on a hail vehicle”

Storms that began around 6:30 pm on Wednesday left behind hailstones and trees in several neighbourhoods of north Winnipeg, such as North and East Kildonan and Transcona, and Garden City.

Ryan Kulbaba’s shed got hit hard.

In an interview with a reporter on Friday, he stated: “The whole roof is destroyed.” We’ve called our insurance company. “I hope that they will replace our roof and the roof of the gazebo.” “Those two items are most damaged.”

Environment Canada has received reports about quarter-sized hail and winds gusts up to 133km/hr in the Dugald region, golf ball-sized and nickel-sized material in Winnipeg, Alonsa and parts of Interlake.

Manitoba Public Insurance said that they have received more than 1 500 hail-damage claims.

As MPI employees prepare to strike Monday, the influx of claimants is expected.

Manitoba Government and General Employees Union: Bargaining will take place this weekend.

MPI has said that if the strike continues, essential services such as driving tests will not be affected.
