Community Security Trust reported that it recorded 320 incidents of antisemitism between October 7 to 16.
According to a Jewish safety group, antisemitic crimes in the UK increased almost 600% after Hamas attacked Israel.
Community Security Trust, which represents British Jews in matters of racism and police enforcement, reported 320 incidents against Jews between October 7-16. This is a significant increase compared to the 47 incidents that were recorded during the same time period last year.
CST reported that 15 incidents were recorded as assaults. Another 14 were for damage done to Jewish property. 244 of these were abusive behavior, and 86 were online.
The 581% increase includes incidents such as a phone call to a Liverpool kosher store, “we will come to get you”.
The words “free Palestine, kill Jews”, were shouted in the middle of London’s Jewish community.
Dave Rich, CST’s director of policy, described the act as “a shameful attempt” to harass and intimidate members of this community.
Shomrim Stamford Hill tweeted that a school had been targeted Thursday, and another on Monday. The footage showed a figure masked spraying paint onto the exterior of buildings.
CST stated in a Monday blog: “These all are instances of antisemitic racism whereby offenders target Jewish people, institutions and communities for their Jewishness.
In many instances, the hateful remarks, life-threatening threats and physical assaults are mixed with language and symbols associated with pro-Palestinian or anti-Israel political views.
These statistics, even when compared with periods in previous conflict involving Israel are unheard of.
The last significant increase in antisemitism in relation to the events of the Middle East occurred in May, 2021.
The CST received 298 reports of antisemitic crimes in the first 10 day period following that violent escalation. In the first 10 day of conflict, in July 2014 we had recorded 82.
The current total is provisional, and it will most likely increase.
The Jewish security group said: “Neither CST nor anyone else will tolerate this anti-Jewish hate.”
