After a fire Sunday night in Reinfeld, there were no injuries but the garage and attic of a home suffered extensive damage.
Winkler Fire chief Richard Paetzold said that when the crews arrived, they discovered an exterior fire. Flames were spreading through the garage and the house’s attic. The firefighter began by attacking the exterior of the home, then quickly entered the attic to use a piercing spray nozzle.
All the occupants of this house were safely able to evacuate after a neighbour alerted them.
At this point, the cost of damage is not known and there are still investigations underway.
Winkler Fire Department also responded Sunday night to an electrical line/tree on Highway 3.
Around 5 am on Monday, Winkler Fire Department received a report of a house fire in the 3rd Street area. When firefighters arrived, they found a small garage fire.
Paetzold said that the firefighters had finished extinguishing the fire and looked for further extension of it into the building when they arrived.
The garage was heavily damaged by smoke, but the home or garage structure itself did not suffer any damage. At this point, the damage is not known. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Smoke inhalation was treated by two people, one of whom also received a minor burn.
