The floods have killed 32 people and destroyed 500 homes in five districts including Takana Village in Wardak Province in eastern Afghanistan.
He mourned the loss of family members before his destroyed mud house after a flood hit Nooruding’s village early on Sunday morning in eastern Afghanistan.
We have 23 total martyrs: 21 of my relatives and 2 from neighbours.
A flash flood in Takana, a flood-affected village located in eastern Wardak Province, occurred at midnight. It destroyed hundreds of houses, farms, gardens and other land in the Jalrez mountain district.
Some of us went up to the roof at 1:30 in the morning, and others stayed within the yard. “We asked them to go up the roof but they didn’t listen to us. They went directly to the gate,” said a man who was dejected.
Our house was flooded suddenly, causing a disaster. The yard was flooded and five to six women and children were trapped. He told Xinhua that from 2:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. they used an excavator in order to remove two bodies found in the flood mud.
Noorudin and his family have been struggling with economic difficulties in the war torn country for many years before the flood.
Our village is devastated and has no economy, therefore we require assistance in rebuilding our home.
The flood smashed everything in the house, even though there had been no rain.
Rauf said to Xinhua, that before the flooding destroyed his eight-room home, 25 people had lived there.
Rauf’s animals and his farmland were destroyed in the natural disaster, according to Rauf. His brother had been injured by the flood.
To build such a home, 2 million Afghanis are needed (approximately 23,000 US dollars).
Mawlawi Jalali, the director of the Natural Disaster Management Authority in the province, said that 32 people were killed, and 500 homes had been partially or completely destroyed, in five districts. This includes Takana Village in Jalrez.
Stanikzai, a resident of Takana Village in the village of Xinhua told Xinhua that the government had provided tents for 30 families and provided 13 different types food and non-food products.
He said, “I’m also in contact with foreign and local aid agencies to try and obtain assistance.”
Unknown to him, a villager in Takana Zukrullah has recovered 21 corpses and now is trying to find the two remaining. He claimed that he had buried men, women and children because the population was too poor to consume plain bread.
The people of the country are at risk from natural disasters. I would like to see international aid agencies help build water reservoirs and canals.
