The Santa Rosa Fire Department was called to the Creekside Park Apartments, located at 1146 4th St. in Santa Rosa on December 4. This apartment complex has three stories and is large. The crew of the first engine noticed that smoke and flames were coming from the third-floor living unit. Once the crews realized that smoke and fire were in the attic, the fire alarm was raised to the second level.
First arriving, the fire engine placed hoses on the third-floor for an attack against an internal fire. By noticing the ladder truck at a loading dock near the grocery store, the responding ladder truck gained access to the roof. The ladder truck can only reach the roof of the complex from this location.
Crews fought the fire and worked to contain it to the original unit while additional firefighters evacuated nearby residents. To reduce the smoke and fire damage, crews ventilated the smoke-filled attic. The crews searched the entire building and found that it was unoccupied.
Firefighters remained at the scene to conduct overhauls and extinguishing operations for several hours. Fire destroyed an apartment unit and caused damage to eight others due to smoke or water. Twenty-seven individuals were affected. Red Cross and the Emergency Management Team of the fire department worked together to help the residents who were displaced. Once the water and electricity issues have been resolved, all but one of the units should be ready for occupancy.
It was found that the fire had started in a bedroom at the back. The fire alarm was not heard by anyone at home. Santa Rosa Fire Department is investigating the fire.
Seven engines, two ladders trucks, three investigators of fire, three chief officers and one public information officer were required to bring down the building.
