Residents of San Juan de Lurigancho, a Lima neighborhood in San Juan de Lurigancho on Saturday morning (9 September) expressed concern when they learned that the wall of an under-construction building had collapsed and landed onto the two-story roof of another building.
This incident occurred in Block 3 of Los Jardines Oeste Avenue, and involved a six-story construction building adjacent to a nearby nightclub. The incident occurred in the early morning hours, at a time when there was no one around. Jhon Méndoza, the spokesperson of San Juan de Lurigancho Municipality’s inspection zone, told RPP Noticias that material damages, including broken chairs and tables, were caused by the collapse of this wall.
The work was not authorized by the Municipality San Juan de Lurigancho. Mendoza stated that this “work execution had already been paralyzed,” and that it was “damaged the roof of nightclub.”
In April this year the San Juan de Lurigancho district municipality detected the lack of a license for the building. A fine of 40,000 soles, or 10% of the total value of the building, was levied.
The owner has yet to resolve this issue. A new fine of one ITU has been added based on a lack in security measures. The demolition of the project is possible.
The owner of the property affected went to Caja de Agua Police Station in the PNP to make a complaint to determine responsibilities.
